Altona is a district in the west of Hamburg and goes down to the Elbe. The best way to start the day there is with a nice breakfast in a small cozy cafe near the Altona train station. Recommended for this is the Mikkels, where you get a delicious breakfast in a great atmosphere.

Afterwards, you can walk through the streets and do some shopping. There are a few unique stores in AltonaOne of my favorites is the store Wohngeschwister, which offers great furniture and decoration.
My favorite thing to buy is beautiful tableware, some plates, bowls or cups.

Another tip of me is the Oxfam Shop in Altona. You can buy beautiful second-hand clothes and jewelry and you still save some money. The Oxfam store is a chain of second-hand stores that are completely non-profit financed and donate the proceeds of sales. If you take a bit of time and browse through the clothes, you can often find really nice pieces.

The shopping street has much more to offer; many small stores and also a shopping center, the Mecado. If you want to eat a snack for lunch, I can recommend choosing one of the snack bars in the Mecado. There you will find delicacies from all over the world. If you are not very hungry, you can also get a coffee or a matcha latte at Codes Coffee. There is definitely something for everyone, whether you are a fan of coffee, tea drinks and everything can be ordered vegan.

After the shopping trip, I recommend going to the Altonaer Balkon. From the train station, you can easily walk over there in 10 minutes. On the way, you pass a small beautiful park and the Altona City Hall.

On the Altonaer Balkon you have a very nice view over the port of Hamburg on the Elbe.A perfect view to take pictures. If the weather is clear, you can take a great walk along the Elbe.It is especially nice to walk towards the Docklands and stop at the Cruise Center and enjoy the view from the building. In the evening it is particularly beautiful to climb the stairs of the building because everything is totally illuminated.

If your hungry in the evening, then there are also a lot of great restaurants you can try out.My favorites are Takumi Ramen, where you get delicious Japanese noodle soups and Flying Market, which specializes in delicious Vietnamese dishes.

If you still want to do something at the end of the evening, I can recommend going to a great bar like Aurel or to watch a show at the Opernloft.Whoever is in summer in Altona is lucky and can watch a movie in the open-air cinema. In Altona’s city hall there is an open-air cinema every year in summer. If the weather is clear, you can sit in the courtyard of the city hall and enjoy a movie with some popcorn at sunset.

In Altona there is much to discover and who makes a vacation in Hamburg I would definitely recommend to visit the district.
